A Newly Certified Passive House Builder
I recently attended a 2-day course held by the Passive House Institute of the United States (PHIUS). The course covered both the theory and practice behind Passive House certification. After the course, I successfully passed the exam and am now a Certified Passive House Builder (CPHB).
As many of you know, I started EcoMod Homes to focus on preservation and restoration of buildings. We have completed many successful projects. However, over the past year, we have also begun to work on some new building projects. Many of these are so-called "high-performance" homes, where the quality of components (windows, insulation, air barriers, etc.) is much higher than required by building code. The goal of these projects is to make the homes use less energy and thus be more earth-friendly.
Our experience and interest in this building type has grown exponentially. As we learn more about the field, the building standards of Passive Houses have become more attractive. We are involved in a Passive House project in Maine. We hope to be involved in more projects. Becoming a CPHB will help us achieve this goal.
